“biography”

“biography” is a one-poem, 30-minute performance, with verses interspersed with original guitar instrumentation. A multi-tempo, wide-ranging and emotionally-charged piece, “biography” is an subversion of the tropes found in a poets biographies, and the life experiences that invisibly underpin and predicate them. Due to the emotional content of the poem, no discussion will follow.

Nick Mulgrew was born in Durban in 1990 to British parents. He is the author of two books: a poetry collection, the myth of this is that we’re all in this together (2015), and Stations (2016), a collection of award-winning short fiction. He is the Deputy Chair of Short Story Day Africa, the founding associate editor of Prufrock magazine, and the publisher of the poetry press uHlanga.
