Home: More than just a place

Debut publishing sensation Jolyn Philips (Tjieng Tjang Tjerries) and poet Helen Moffett (Strange Fruit and The Hadeda’s Cousin) will read short stories and poems that explore some of the issues associated with home: belonging, escaping, identity, family and the familiar, horizons, sense of place.
The Five Commandments of Editing Poetry
Everything that we write needs editing, including poetry. And while a fresh eye is always needed, we must learn how to first edit our own work. But editing poetry, especially our own, poses special challenges. In this informal talk, poet and editor Helen Moffett (Strange Fruit and The Hadeda’s Cousin) will outline some of the ways into this mysterious territory. Practical and encouraging, the idea is to show poets (and writers of other works) ways they can find “the poem within the poem” . Please note that this will be a talk, not a reading or a workshop in which poems by participants will be shared or discussed, and all are welcome.
